Overthinking Silence

|

Rejection sensitivity is sneaky.
It doesn’t need big drama. Sometimes, it only takes a pause.

I send a message, nothing fancy, just confirming plans. Hours pass. No reply. And suddenly my brain is running a full season of “Reasons They Secretly Hate Me.”

I replay the last conversation. I analyze every emoji. I convince myself silence = anger. And the funny part? When they finally do respond, it’s something simple like, “Sorry, just got busy.”

That’s ADHD + RSD (rejection sensitivity dysphoria) in action. My brain fills silence with stories. And those stories always cast me as the problem.

It’s exhausting. But naming it helps. Catching the spiral mid-thought and reminding myself: Silence isn’t proof. Busy isn’t rejection.
Easier said than done, but it’s a start.

So if your chest tightens every time a text bubble doesn’t appear, you’re not alone. Your brain is just loud. And it doesn’t always tell the truth.
