Leavng the house struggle

|

There’s a moment before I leave the house where everything feels under control.
Shoes on. Coat ready. Keys in hand.
I’m practically a model of punctuality.

And then… I spot it.
That drawer that’s been slightly open for three days.
I’ll just close it… no big deal.

But wait, why is there a rubber band in here? And a birthday card from 2017?
Oh no.
Fifteen minutes later, I’m knee-deep in a full reorganization of the junk drawer, dust bunnies multiplying around me, the clock mocking me from the corner of my eye.

This is time blindness in action.
The neurodivergent ability to turn “one quick task” into a full-blown archaeological dig and somehow lose all awareness that time is passing.
It’s not laziness. It’s not bad planning. It’s just how our brains love to leap into “interesting” without checking the schedule first.

Here’s the thing:
I know I’m not the only one.
I know there are people reading this right now who have been late because they found themselves deep-cleaning a vent, organizing pens by ink color, or unravelling a mystery cord drawer.

So here’s my gentle reminder to us both:
The drawer will wait.
The appointment will not.
And sometimes, getting out the door is the real win of the day.
